The Memphis Sound…elusive, nostalgic, contemporary, indefinable.

The only way you can pin it down is just DO IT, with people who have lived in Memphis and DONE IT in the Memphis clubs. When Andy had that gleam in his eye and talked about producing a Memphis Sound recording, there was only one question remaining: Could we get Jeff "Stick" Davis and Billy Earheart? So I picked up the phone and called Jeff, whom I hadn’t talked to in maybe 15 years, and YES, he was jumping on it.

Jeff and Andy put all the musicians together, found just the right studio, and we set out to play just like we did together in the late 70s and early 80s at clubs like the Madison Club in Memphis. During those years, Jeff and Billy were on hiatus from the Aces, and we were all performing with Don McMinn and the Memphis Blues Revue – a rotating bunch of "knowns" and "unknowns" whose only goal each night was to Get Down and Boogie. Memphis clubs had just started their all-night hours -- so from 1am til dawn, you’d find the greatest players coming in after their "regular" performances to play late-nights with the Blues Revue. We’d play Al Green songs, and Delbert McClinton songs, and Bar-Kays songs, before they even got recorded. That was the beauty of playing in Memphis back then – all these players would come into the clubs and lay down the songs even as they were being written.

This whole project was a blast, from conception to finish, and I sure hope you love it as much as I do!
